Blue Ice Pictures is an independent film and television production company based in Toronto with offices in Cape Town, and Johannesburg.
The company’s highly skilled team develops and produces critically acclaimed and commercially viable films, television shows, documentaries, and reality series, with a longstanding involvement in international co-productions and studio production services.
With the purchase of South Africa’s production powerhouse, Out of Africa Entertainment, Neil Tabatznik and Steven Silver of Blue Ice Group founded Blue Ice Pictures with Lance Samuels in 2011. Soon after its inception, Toronto based Blue Ice Pictures bought Foundry Films and Daniel Iron joined the team to become the Canadian President of the company. In 2014, veteran producer Mary Anne Waterhouse became Head of Production.
Lance runs Blue Ice Pictures out of the Toronto office as president of the company. He’s a seasoned producer of highend films and television series since 1991. He quickly became South Africa's most experienced and sought after producer, working on all major productions shot in South Africa. In 2004, Lance founded Out of Africa Entertainment – now responsible for over 80 hours of international television series and South Africa’s highest grossing film of all time, Schuks Shabalala's Survival. The company has also service produced commercially and creatively successful shows including HBO’s Generation Kill and Cinemax’s Strike Back. Lance has produced a number of acclaimed feature films including The Bang Bang Club, Inescapable, and Lucky.
Daniel is president of Blue Ice Canada and was legal counsel at Telefilm Canada for five years. He then joined and eventually became a partner at Rhombus Media where he produced the television series Slings and Arrows and several acclaimed feature films including The Red Violin and Last Night.
In January 2004, Daniel left Rhombus to create his own production company, Foundry Films – behind award-winning films including Away from Her, Manufactured Landscapes, and Cairo Time. Now at Blue Ice Pictures, he stands as one of the premier producers in Canada – attracting top writers and directors from around the world.
Mary Anne, Head of Production, is an award-winning producer, with a resume that spans over 50 film and television productions. Credits range from independent feature films such as the cult classic zombie comedy, Fido, to studio features including the Joss Whedon feature, Cabin in the Woods, and most recently, Neil Blomkamp’s Elysium.
Mary Anne’s background spans all aspects of both production and finance, having worked as production accountant, production manager, line producer, and producer on productions at all budget levels.
Philippa King is head of business affairs at Blue Ice Pictures. She has worked in the Canadian film and TV industry for over thirty years and has extensive experience with all the business requirements of production, including the funding agencies, tax credit incentives and banking. Graduating from York University with an honors BA in theatre, Philippa began her career working in independent production prior to her employment at the OMDC. After leaving the OMDC, she worked as head of business at Rhombus Media and subsequently marblemedia. Most recently Philippa worked at Pricewaterhouse Coopers as a tax manager in the Media & Technology group.
Priscilla Galvez is an associate producer at Blue Ice Pictures. With five years experience working in the media industry, she began her career in public relations working at the Toronto International Film Festival and advertising company George Briggs Media. A recent graduate of the Advanced Television and Film program at Sheridan College, Priscilla has also received production training at the New York Film Academy and completed a bachelor’s degree in Film Studies and Communications at Wilfrid Laurier University.
Stephen Raglow is the executive assistant to Lance Samuels and Daniel Iron. Stephen began his film career working on film sets, primarily in the camera and assistant director departments. He graduated from York University with an honors BFA in film.
